Powering Through To The Finish Line

 4 - Only 4! - Weeks Until Election Day

Happy Tuesday, Activists!

We hope you had a great weekend.  As we've said, this is the time in this election year when we work our tails off to get to a win on November 5th.  If you've been waiting to start taking action to get out the vote, or to expand what you're doing, now is the time!  Of course, I don't need to tell you how much is at stake.  You can see the details about Project 2025 on our website here

The most important and effective action you can take is talking to voters at their door.  So if you haven't yet, please consider getting out of your comfort zone and trying it out.  We make it fun, and you can go with an experienced canvasser too.  So let's get going!

No matter what, the way to reduce our anxiety about this election is to keep working for a win.  So sign up to join one of the many options below!  We are proud to be doing this with you.

QUICK CALL TO ACTION

Just a quick diversion into PA politics.  In the PA legislature, as usual, the PA House Dems and Governor Shapiro have stood firmly behind public transit funding.  Now the PA Senate Republicans are stalling to pass the essential funding.  We urgently need them to act. Time is running out to secure the resources our communities need for public transit.

Call PA Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (717) 787-8724 & demand the PA Senate vote on PA House Bill 1219 to provide a permanent source of funding for Transit in PA (including Septa)! If the current funding gap is not closed we will be facing major fare hikes & Service cuts!

LEARN ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF PROJECT 2025 FOR PA

You can join one of PA Megaphone's upcoming virtual events about what's at stake for Pennsylvania families if Project 2025 is implemented after this election.  The first option is tonight at 6:30 and the second one is tomorrow, October 9th, at 1:00.

Speakers will tell us about how Project 2025 would impact issues important for families in PA, why we must organize to prevent it, and what an agenda looks like to support PA families.

CANVASSING

Join us in Oxford Circle or in West Philly for canvassing.  We've been having great conversations with the voters and you'll enjoy talking to them too.

SOME NEWS -- We have a new strategy for our canvassing program.  The Harris campaign is organizing canvasses all over the city in a big way.  As a result, and for the first time, the areas where we usually canvass are also being covered by the campaign.  So there is no reason, and in fact it's a waste of resources, for us to canvass where they are too.  So we are doing our canvasses through them.  We now use their canvass address lists and their handout materials.

We will still go to the same areas where we've been canvassing before and you should sign up with the links below. But we'll have the changes noted above.

When:  Every Saturday, 11:00 AM Oxford Circle. Pick the dates that work for you.

Where:  Country Club Diner, 1717 Cottman Ave. 19111

When:  Alternating Sundays on October 13 and 27 at 12:00 Noon, West Philly.  Sign up for your choice below.

Where:  City Line Diner and Deli, 7547 Haverford Ave, Philadelphia

Finally, want to head west to canvass for the super important PA-08? Congressman Matt Cartwright is a terrific Democrat but he's in a purple district and always needs a boost of canvassers.  Swing Left is providing busses on November 3rd to go out there and canvass for Harris/Walz, Senator Casey, and Congressman Cartwright.  It's in partnership with Stand Up America, Vote Save America, and the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.  Click below to see all the details.  Sign up here

VOTER REGISTRATION

Register voters so they get out there and vote in November!  We'll also have good conversations with folks as we table at various events.

Register students on college campuses

Join NextGen registering new voters on college campuses all over the city and state.

Do you live in a large apartment building with rentals in Philadelphia?  Please let us know if we can set up voter registration in your building lobby.  We are doing this in several buildings thanks to your work getting management approval but we want to do more!

Reply to this newsletter and let us know if you can check with your building.

PHONE BANKING

Calling and talking to voters is super effective!

The technology for talking to voters when we make calls has really improved, so if you haven't tried this recently, try it now.  You'll have more conversations.

Call Florida Voters for Kamala on Tuesday, October 15 at 6pm ET/3pm PT. Florida is home to one of the most competitive red-to-blue Senate pickup opportunities of the election and could very well decide control of the chamber -- help us reach out to Sunshine State voters in support of Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Kamala Harris.

Indivisible and Gaslit Nation Phone Bank October 17 at 7pm ET/4pm PT. Join Indivisible and Andrea Chalupa of Gaslit Nation for a phonebank into key states like Montana and Missouri.

Call Ohio Voters for Sherrod Brown and Kamala Harris on Monday, October 21 at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT. If we hope to hold our Senate majority, it's critical we do everything we can to re-elect Sherrod Brown this November! Join our phonebank into Ohio and help us reach out to voters in support of Sherrod Brown for US Senate and Kamala Harris for President.

Here is a list of the upcoming Indivisible phone banks into key areas of swing states to tell voters about the Harris/Walz team. Click here to find one that works for you!

Also - You can make calls to PA voters with Promote the Vote PA and Turn PA Blue - lots of choices!

INDIVISIBLE'S WOMEN WEDNESDAYS FOR HARRIS

This week, we’ll be celebrating and uplifting women organizers doing crucial work in red states -- and talking about how folks in blue states can lend a hand. Know someone who lives in a red state? Bring them along or pass this email on to them!

We’ll hear from special guests like Tennessee State Rep. Gloria Johnson, actress Gina Torres, and activists on the front lines of these organizing efforts about how they are overcoming party polarization to bring people together over shared values and a positive vision for the future.

VOTER PROTECTION WORK

You can sign up now for working at a polling place and other work to protect the vote this year.  The PA Voter Protection Volunteer Team has lots of opportunities, both in person & remote. They will have many trainings for you over the next month or two.

The Dems need thousands of poll observers on Election Day, as well as other important roles. Each role starts with you signing up for the one-hour virtual training before we start the assignment process. If you haven’t done so already, it is very helpful for planning purposes if you sign up for training sooner rather than later.

VOLUNTEER WITH THE HARRIS CAMPAIGN

Please see the most critical needs below:

In-Person Roles:

Poll Observer

In this Election Day role, you will be the eyes and ears of the campaign: documenting issues, solving problems, answering questions as they arise.Poll Observers will be assigned to serve as either an “Inside” or “Outside” Observer. Full and half day shifts available.

Sign up for a one-hour Zoom training here: Poll Observer Training

Sign up for other Voter Protection work here.

Canvass Observer

Canvass Observers monitor the process of counting ballots (called “canvassing ballots” in PA). These are 6 hour shifts running from 7 am on Election Day until the count is finalized, which could be several days later.

Sign up for a one-hour Zoom training here: Canvass Observer Training

Designated Agent

Pennsylvania’s voters with disabilities are entitled to limited assistance in casting their mail-in ballots. From now until November 5th, we’re looking for volunteers to help them as Designated Agents–a multi-step process in which the volunteer serves as an authorized liaison between the voter and the elections office.

Complete this form if interested: Designated Agent Signup Form

Remote Roles:

Ballot Cure Calls

Ballot cure volunteers help voters fix their mailed-in ballots that are at risk of rejection.

Sign up for a Ballot Cure Phone Bank here: Ballot Cure Phone Bank (more times will be added soon)

Volunteer Recruitment Calls

We run weekly two-hour phonebanks to call supporters interested in voter protection and get them signed up for volunteer shifts.
