Happy Monday, Activists!  We hope you had a good weekend. This Special Edition newsletter is simply to tell you about a letter the Indivisible groups across the state have written to Senator Fetterman asking him to resign. Jake Fein, our Indivisible state organizer, wrote to statewide leadership about it this morning and I'll just paste his email below, which best describes the background and the current state. It attaches links to today's Inquirer article about the letter as well as the letter itself.  Please note there are a couple of factual errors in the Inquirer article that we will ask them to correct: 1) I am NOT the founder of Indivisible PA! Just Indivisible Philadelphia. 2) There are 91 Indivisible groups across the state, not 11. Please let me know if you have any questions.  Here is the heart of Jake's email:  After months of deliberation and planning, almost two weeks ago today the PA Statewide Steering Committee submitted a poll to every single Indivisible member who has been active in Pennsylvania for the last two years. That poll question was: Do you think we, as Pennsylvania Indivisibles, should call for John Fetterman’s resignation as our Senator? The poll’s integrity was vetted by both the Statewide Steering Committee and members of National’s Political and Press Teams. Of the 1700 responses we received, we found 93% of Indivisible members in PA feel it is time we ask Senator Fetterman to step down.  It is clear that the vast majority of Indivisibles, many of whom fought tooth and nail to get him elected, feel betrayed by John Fetterman. Many of you wrote back to me with various thoughts on why/how you came to the decisions you made- I want you to know that I appreciate your input. Your thoughts were taken back to the Steering Committee who worked under the guidance and support of our National Team to put together a letter that was measured in tone, tailored in scope, and with regard for his well-being.  On Friday afternoon, I wrote to you all with news that a meeting between the Statewide Steering Committee and the Senator was in the works. Unfortunately, I am writing to you all today to let you know that those talks have failed, as neither the Senator nor his staff were able to respond with a confirmation before our deadline of Friday evening. Due to that failure to meet the deadline, we are now considering the letter finalized and sent. Our team has reached out to Julia Terruso of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who has been following the Senator’s behavior. By this morning, she will have published a piece detailing our communications to the Senator and the stance of our movement. You can also see the final letter that was delivered to Senator Fetterman’s staff here.  As Jake describes, we did not reach this decision to ask Senator Fetterman to resign lightly. Please reach out with any questions or concerns you have by replying to this email.  We're grateful to be in the fight with you.   |
