Happy Friday, Activists!

We hope you had a good weekend.  Here is the link to this past Tuesday's newsletter with all your election info and many actions to take to move our democracy forward and push against the regime.  Today here are some upcoming events you can join to show your dissatisfaction, as it were, with what's happening right now.

Black Voters Matter - All Roads Lead To The South

TOMORROW!

After the conservatives on the Supreme Court gutted what remained of the Voting Right Act, allowing states to gerrymander the heck out of their Congressional Districts and disenfranchise Black voters across the country, we need to respond and tell them we won't sit idly by.  This is a national day of action, with the focal event being a march to Selma, AL.

Join the Black Caucus of Philly Socialist Alternative in solidarity with thousands marching to Selma against the racist attacks on Black voters on Saturday at 2:00pm!  Bring your signs and voices!

Where:  Across West Side of City Hall, 15th and Market Street

When:  TOMORROW, May 16, 2:00 - 3:30

Election day is in 4 days! Make sure you're ready!

Perhaps the biggest upcoming event is Tuesday's election! Be sure to vote!

You can check all the details for the election in our recent newsletter here.  Below are a few highlights.

Check this form to see if you had a problem filling out your mail-in ballot and need to correct it.

Not sure if you're registered?  Check it here.

Polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  Remember, if you are in line when the polls close you'll still be able to vote.

If you have an emergency and missed the mail-in ballot deadline, you may still be able to request an emergency application for an absentee ballot.

Your mail-in ballot must be received at the election office by 8:00 pm on election day.  Otherwise drop it in one of the many Philadelphia Satellite Election Offices and drop boxes.  DO NOT MAIL IT! It's too late to get there in time.

Make sure your mail-in ballot is counted!  Check instructions in this good explainer with lots of details about mail-in ballots at the PA Department of State website.

You can vote in person by mail ballot before election day!  Now that ballots have been distributed, you can apply for a mail-in ballot at your election board office before the deadline.  The office will hand you a ballot and you simply vote the ballot and drop it in the voting box there.

Track your mail-in ballot at this ballot tracker.

Find the Satellite Election Offices here and the locations of all of the drop boxes here.

You can see answers to a lot more questions for college student voting at this link.

CELEBRATE AND REMEMBER ONA JUDGE AND HER COURAGE

When: Next Thursday, May 21, 3:30 PM

Where:  President's House Slavery Memorial, 6th and Market Streets

Ona "Oney" Judge was one of Washington's enslaved people and she courageously escaped enslavement.  This event honors the anniversary of her courageous escape.  Following the Roberts Court's disastrous ruling gutting the Voting Rights Act, there's no better time to show they are on the wrong side of history and we will never stop fighting for everyone's rights.

Solidarity in Action: Showing Up for Immigrants Town Hall

You’ll hear from Bread & Roses grantees who are organizing on the frontlines in the fight against ICE. You’ll connect with friends and neighbors to talk about what solidarity looks like right now. And you’ll find ways to take meaningful action.

Thursday, May 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Where:  The Center City Location provided at signup

Register for this evening session here.

OUR NEXT CITIZENS PROTEST - ANOTHER NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION!

Let's keep up the pressure, pressure, pressure

Join us and thousands of people across the country on Saturday, June 6th to send Citizens Bank a clear message: financing private prison and immigration detention facility operators The GEO Group and CoreCivic is bad for business. We'll be at Philadelphia branches at 11:00.

Citizens Bank is bankrolling the country’s two largest prison companies that are earning record profits operating dozens of ICE detention facilities. While most major banks have cut ties with CoreCivic and The GEO Group, Citizens Bank is deepening its financial support for these companies, which are already holding more than half of the 70,000 immigrants currently in ICE detention centers across the country.

Please bring your signs!  Some ideas are: De-ICE Citizens Bank; Cages Aren't Communities; Citizens Bank - Stop Financing ICE Prisons; Citizens Bank + ICE = Human Rights Abuse; ICE Prisons Don't Strengthen Our Communities; Citizens Bank - Cut Ties With ICE Prisons; or think up one of your own!  We love to see them.

Where: 1515 Market Street, Philadelphia

When: Saturday, June 6, 11:00 - Noon

Sign up here.
