Another Week, More Ways to Save Democracy

Happy Wednesday, Activists!

We hope you're having a good week so far, and weathering these difficult times.  We're thrilled to see you at the rallies and in person to pick up your leaflets for our Leaflet Philly project, and of course as we deliver your materials for our 35 Doors project.  If you're not part of those yet, see below to join us!

You can see the details for the Calls To Action from last Tuesday's newsletter at this link.  We still need to make the calls to our State Reps and Senators and tell them they must ensure SEPTA is fully funded. And we need to fight back against the SAVE Act.  See below.

Here's a quick refresher:

1.  Call your PA State legislator and find them here.  Tell them to stay strong and fight for good SEPTA funding, no holding back.

AND call PA Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (717) 787-8724 and tell him that we are the economic engine of this state, we contribute more funding for the rest of the state than any other region, and that we deserve a healthy SEPTA to stay the thriving region that we are.  Again, check out the details  last Tuesday's newsletter.

2.  House Republicans recently passed one of the most extreme voter suppression bills we’ve seen, and we need to make sure it dies in the Senate.  It would cause massive challenges for married women and trans and nonbinary people who’ve changed their names, and disproportionately impact people of color.

Indivisible has more on this bill and Trump’s related Executive Order

Call our Senators and tell them to block Republicans from disenfranchising millions of voters with this horrible bill.  Contact info below.

TOMORROW NIGHT!

Join in this community event to hear from elected leaders, veterans, union leaders and community members about how the recent federal cuts can impact you and your family.

When:   TOMORROW, Thursday, April 24, 6:30 pm

MAY DAY NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION

We'll show that We The People are Indivisible.

Historically, May Day celebrates the progress of working people and honors those who fought for it, but as the MAGA movement rolls back workers’ rights and strips America down for profit, we’re joining a vast coalition of unions and other organizations to turn May 1 into a nationwide day of mobilization.

Trump is doing everything he can to ensure that working people are getting fleeced while billionaires grow their wealth and power.  And don't forget, he wants us to be divided. It's why, as they use one hand to pick our pockets, they use the other to blame immigrants, Diversity Equity and Inclusion programs, or our trans siblings. This is a moment for working people to remind ourselves - and the billionaires controlling our government - of our power.

We originally planned a rally on May 1 on Independence Mall.  However instead, we''ll join together with the rally planned by a group of unions and other organizations at City Hall at 4:00 that day.  If you signed up here already, no problem.  We'll send more details there too. Otherwise just come to City Hall at 4:00 pm on May 1 and remind the administration of our power.

CALLS TO ACTION

1.  BRING KILMAR ABREGO GARCIA HOME

With President Trump defying the Supreme Court to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia (along with hundreds of others) imprisoned in El Salvador, we find ourselves in a moral and constitutional crisis. Calls and emails to Congress aren’t sufficient to end these crises, but they are necessary to ensure our elected officials understand the public won’t move on until Abrego Garcia is home and the disappearances end.

Contact our Members of Congress and demand they do everything in their power to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia home.

2.  SAY "NO" TO THE TAX SCAM THAT HURTS US AND HELPS BILLIONAIRES

Republicans in Congress are trying to ram through the Trump Tax Scam. They’re using budget reconciliation—a wonky process that would allow them to pass legislation with only Republican votes to give the ultra-wealthy trillions of dollars in tax breaks while expecting the rest of us to foot the bill.

They’re planning to slash funding to Medicaid, SNAP, early education programs, and countless other programs that working families rely on, all to give billionaires massive handouts.  We cannot let Trump and the Republicans get away with gutting these vital programs.

Call our House Members and Senators and tell them you want them to vote NO on this legislation.

LEAFLET PHILLY!

Here's a fun, easy way to increase voter engagement across Philadelphia (and maybe burn off some of that anxiety we are all feeling),  Every month we'll be leafleting Philadelphia — with the goal of every home, all across the city. Here's how it works.  Each month we will design a door hanger with a simple, timely and compelling message for our neighbors. This month it's about tariffs.  The door hangers will link Republicans to the chaos and misery they create and show Philadelphians how they can take action — with the ultimate goal of increasing voter turnout over the next four years!  Sign up here. You'll get 100 door hangers to simply hang on every door up and down the block.  It’s quick and easy — no knocking, no lists, just leave the leaflet on the door and stroll on to the next one! You pick the day that’s most convenient for you and repeat a month later.

Sign up here.

BE A NEIGHBORHOOD LEADER IN OUR 35 DOORS PROGRAM
