CALLS TO ACTION

1.  We're keeping at this!  Call your representative NOW and tell them to vote against billions more for ICE and Border Patrol. In the early hours of the morning on Friday, Republican senators (with the exception of Lisa Murkowski) passed Trump’s reconciliation bill, handing ICE and Border Patrol $70 billion to fund their kidnappings, concentration camps, and family separations. The House is expected to vote on the bill TODAY, so make a call to your House member now. Tell them to vote NO.

2.  Trump just appointed his political attack dog, Bill Pulte, as acting Director of National Intelligence. Pulte has absolutely no experience in national intelligence, and was clearly offered the job based on his willingness to go after Trump's political adversaries. Thus far, this has included Senator Adam Schiff, NY Attorney General Letitia James, and Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. He is even currently under investigation by the Government Accountability Office over whether he misused his authority at the Federal Housing Finance Agency to go after these “enemies.” 

Congress has very little authority when it comes to blocking an acting director, but it still has massive amounts of leverage right now. Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) is an intelligence-gathering law that is set to expire on June 12. The Trump regime is obsessed with getting it reauthorized. Congress can — and should — refuse to reauthorize the law until Pulte is removed from his position (and even then, only pass the law with guardrails to protect Americans from warrantless surveillance by this authoritarian regime).

Tell your Members of Congress you expect them to use all their leverage — including blocking FISA reauthorization — to remove Pulte.

TWO EVENTS FOR MOSHANNON

Moshannon Valley Processing Center is the largest ICE Concentration Camp in the Northeast. Immigrants at this facility frequently describe inhumane treatment, poor conditions, lack of access to their families.  Just recently, individuals who began a hunger strike at Moshannon were placed in solitary confinement as punishment and to discourage others from organizing. Multiple deaths in ICE custody have occurred at the facility in recent years.

On June 13th, join us in Philipsburg, PA, at a lot close to the Moshannon facility, to send our message loud and clear to the Clearfield County commissioners (as well as the community at large) that they must VOTE NO on an upcoming Geo Group renewal. Pack a lunch, water, chairs, shade, supplies, and your signs saying “End Detention Now” or “Shut Down Moshannon”.

VIGIL WITH LIVE FREE PHILLY

On June 18th you can join the bus sponsored by Live Free Philly to go out and protest what's happening at Moshannon. Live Free Philly is a movement that calls on people of conscience to stand in prayer, witness, and community action against profit-driven inhuman confinement. The vigil starts at 1:00 pm.  The bus leaves Mt. Airy at 8:00 am and returns at 7:00 pm.  The group is asking for a donation of $40 to help pay for the bus. 

JUNE 14 - RISE UP, SING OUT PARTIES!

On June 14th, the anniversary of No Kings and Flag Day, the No Kings Coalition is partnering with the Committee for the First Amendment (CFA) for their national day of action, “Rise Up, Sing Out.”  The concert is sponsored by Jane Fonda and will feature a lot of entertainers and singers you know.  It's from 7:30 - 9:00 pm.  Sign up here and to see all the entertainers performing at the concert.

Tell the world we want ICE out!

Starting later this week, the eyes of the world will be on North America - including Philadelphia. We have an historic opportunity to force the issue of ICE’s human rights abuses onto the global stage.

Project World Cup Spotlight is mobilizing non-violent protests, hosted by a variety of local organizations, in eight World Cup cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico to harness the power of the world’s media.  Our group is hosting this one, on the day of one of the six World Cup games in Philadelphia.  

Media from across the globe will be present and local voices can shape international narratives. This is an opportunity to influence global perception and elevate our community's concerns.

We believe the principles of fair play shouldn’t stop at the stadium walls. A disregard for human rights is unacceptable, and we must make that clear to the world.

Where:  1100 Pattison Ave. on the sidewalk; across the street from Lincoln Financial Field (now called Philadelphia Stadium) on the side of Citizens Bank Park

When:  Saturday, June 27, 2:30 - 4:00 (the game begins at 5:00)
