Happy Thursday, Activists! As we head into the holidays -- and we hope you are already having some fun -- we still want our Members of Congress to get some stuff done while we have the trifecta. When Republicans take over control of the House, we are guaranteed chaos -- not only because that is what comes with Republican rule, but also because a chasm is slowly opening in the Republican party with Donald Trump at the center. Even some Republicans admit the turmoil a MAGA House majority will create. So now is the time to get good bills passed and signed into law while we can.
CALLS TO ACTION We need Democrats to keep Congress in session for the remainder of this calendar year to minimize the potential harm by Republicans. Rep. Evans – D.C. office 202-225-4001; Phila. office 215-276-0340; email link Rep. Boyle – D.C. office 202-225-6111; Phila office 215-335-3355; email link Sen. Casey – Phila office 215-405-9660; D.C. 202-224-6324; email link Sen. Toomey – Phila office 215-241-1090; D.C. 202-224-4254; email link For outside PA: Find your Senators’ phone numbers and emails at this link. Call Senator Toomey (I know!) today and tell him to vote YES on an omnibus government funding package. Demand he agree to a full year of funding for the government, preventing extremist House Republicans from forcing a shutdown. Call Senator Casey and tell him he must stay in session until the work is done. The clock running out on how much time is left to achieve legislative victories. Our Democratic senators know it too. Encourage them to stay in session and achieve as much as is possible, such as the Electoral Count Act. Word behind the scenes is that they are already thinking about staying in session, so call today to make sure those thoughts become a reality. Call your representative and ask them to stay in session until their work is finished. Thanks to the final session, the Respect for Marriage Act was just signed into law. But we can’t stop there. Remind your representatives that this historic legislation is only the tip of the iceberg. There’s more they can accomplish, such as the Electoral Count Act.
KEEP JANUARY 6 IN FOCUS
Before you know it, the January 6 anniversary will be here. So mark your calendars before you head off to your holiday celebrations and sign up here. We are planning a fun event to remind voters that we must keep in focus the real threat to democracy made all to real by the attack on the Capitol on January 6. We all must remember how close we came to losing our democracy and that we need to constantly protect and defend it. We had so much fun when we did a similar event several months ago (see photo above). We'll meet again just south of City Hall on the dividers where Broad Street heads south. We'll have light-up signs again, like in the photo above (but with a different slogan) to remind voters as they drive by that we all must fight for our democracy every day. When: Friday, January 6, 5:00 pm Where: South side of City Hall, at Broad Street on the traffic dividers Sign up here.
NEW! Listen to ULTRA by Rachel Maddow and tell us what you think!
Have you listened to the podcast "Rachel Maddow Presents ULTRA"? It's awesome and has so many similarities to the issues we have been facing for the past six years. How about Members of Congress colluding with Nazis before World War II? Yes -- Nazis. This is a story we should have been taught in school -- but we weren't. So we're learning this history now. Plus, word is that Steven Spielberg may be interested in making it into a movie! Some of us at Indivisible Philadelphia HQ have been listening to it and we thought it would be fun for all of us to share our comments about it. You can find it wherever you get your podcasts or here. Just reply to this email to share your comments, or tell us on our Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook pages. We'll share the best ones here in later newsletters, sort of like a book club, but instead on here for a podcast. I have one more episode to listen to and then I'll share my comments. Enjoy the podcast!
35 DOORS PROJECT Even though election day is over, it's always the time to get interested in our 35 Doors Project! We always need to sign up to talk to voters in our neighborhoods to get out the vote.
This is some of the most important work you can do -- and it's fun! Check out our 35 Doors Project on our website. Email us here for more info.
