Happy Tuesday, Activists!

We hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend.  House Republicans were busy bees last week passing the "Big Billionaire Welfare Act".  And it's really, really bad.  It's been called the largest wealth transfer from the poorest to the richest.  And they've added some corruption in the bill too.  I mean, what the heck are they doing?  Let's make some calls!

TOMORROW!

MEET CONGRESSMAN JAMIE RASKIN - BRING YOUR QUESTIONS

We are excited for our virtual Town Hall tomorrow at 5:30 pm.  Our special guest will be Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin!  He'll give us his thoughts on where we are now, what we must do next, and he'll answer your questions.

You can submit the questions you want us to ask Congressman now.  Just use this form to enter your question.

We'll meet on Zoom at 5:30 pm tomorrow.   Sign up here.

June 14th is a busy day!  It's Flag Day and it's the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army.  It's also the day Trump has announced a big military parade for his birthday.  Sounds like a great day for a rousing, non-violent, and huge protest to shout we have NO KINGS in this country!  So let's get to it!

Activists won't be in D.C. for this event because it would only help make the president's day a success.  As a result, Philadelphia has been selected as the NATIONAL ANCHOR EVENT FOR JUNE 14TH!  So let's show up!

We will start at Love Park, 15th and JFK Boulevard, at Noon.  Then we'll march to the Art Museum for the rally.  Sign up here.  And after you sign up, tell your friends to sign up too.  This is going to be fantastic!

Once you sign up we can update you on any more details as we know them.

Also, we will need marshals/peacekeepers to help direct the crowd and deescalate potential conflict.  You can sign up here.  No experience is necessary and you will be trained and have all the information you need for success.

 CALLS TO ACTION

CUTS AND CORRUPTION - WE SAY NO WAY!

1.  Make calls, send emails, to stop the budget cuts and the corrupt protections for Trump.  Here is just some of what the bill does:

- Prevents courts from issuing contempt rulings or other enforcement mechanisms against the government, like when they violated a court ruling to stop the immigrant renditions to other countries.  Check out this video for the explanation.

Plus:

- Massive cuts to Medicaid and the ACA that would leave 15 million people without healthcare

- Denying food assistance to more than 11 million people

- Decimated access to reproductive healthcare by defunding Planned Parenthood and banning ACA plans from covering abortion care

- Higher costs of home utility bills because of cuts to clean energy investments

- Skyrocketing costs of college by eliminating student loan programs and slashing Pell Grant funding

Call our Republican senators and representatives and tell them you won't put up with this corruption and these horrible cuts.

Call our Democratic elected officials and thank them for committing to vote against this bill.

2.  Stop the GENIUS Act.  See all the details in last week's newsletter at this link and call and demand our senators oppose the GENIUS Act and stop Trump’s crypto corruption, including at all the procedural steps along the way.

3.  Make calls about Funding SEPTA --  Find out more and how to make the calls in our earlier newsletter at this link.

YOU CAN HELP PLANNED PARENTHOOD

On June 7, anti-choice activists will be attempting to block the entrance to our local Planned Parenthood clinic.  They will try to intimidate patients from obtaining the healthcare they are entitled to.

You can help stop this intimidation by showing up with others for only a short time - from 9:00 to 10:00 am to block access to their route and keep this group from gaining access to the area right around the clinic.

How can you do this?  Simply show up at the Elizabeth Blackwell Women's Center at 1144 Locust Street at 9:00 am and follow instructions from the other volunteers.

JOIN OUR LETTERS TO THE EDITOR TEAM!

Are you a good writer? Or do you have opinions but not know how to express them?  If you answer yes to either of those questions, then this is the team for you.  We can help you write so you can effectively send your thoughts to folks willing to consider another point of view.

LEAFLET PHILLY!

We're gearing up for our next round of leaflets - this time about the cuts to medical research. Sign up here to join this fantastic team.

This project is a fun, easy way to increase voter engagement across Philadelphia (and maybe burn off some of that anxiety we're all feeling).

Each month we design a door hanger with a simple, timely and compelling message for our neighbors. The door hangers will link Republicans to the chaos and misery they create and show Philadelphians how they can take action — with the goals of moving people into action and of increasing voter turnout over the next four years.  Sign up here. You'll get 100 door hangers to simply hang on every door up and down blocks near you.  It’s quick and easy — no knocking, no lists, just leave the leaflet on the door and stroll on to the next one! You pick the day that’s most convenient for you and repeat a month later.
