Call Governor Shapiro

Happy Thursday, Activists,

First, let's all take a moment to remember 911.  Today is the 24th anniversary of that day, when thousands died and many thousands more have died from the toxic chemicals they were exposed to.  As we know, Pennsylvania was involved in the day as well, as one of the planes was deliberately crashed in Shanksville, PA, killing all aboard.

Yesterday, on the same day that two children were shot and injured at a high school outside Denver, Charlie Kirk, the right-wing podcaster, was shot and killed during one of his events.  You may not have heard about that first one because the news barely covered it - it was just another Wednesday in America.  But the Charlie Kirk murder, admittedly of a very famous and influential person, has received extensive, almost constant, coverage.

We at Indivisible Philadelphia unreservedly condemn violence and especially political violence.

However, on the eve of 911, Governor Shapiro announced that "United States and Commonwealth flags on all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to fly at half-staff as a mark of respect for the memory of Charlie Kirk.".  Yes, you read that right, half staff for three days.  Now we're giving one of our highest honors to a podcaster who delivered more hate speech than we can recount.  For example: about women; about gun rights and the LGBTQ community

We do not believe we should give our highest honors to purveyors of hate speech who themselves advocated for violence. Especially on this solemn day of grief and remembrance for those lost on 911 and in the years following.

So if you would like to express your feelings about Governor Shapiro giving this honor to Charlie Kirk's memory, please call him at 717-787-2500.
