Happy Tuesday, Activists!
Starting with a bit of inspiration today. You may have watched Adam Schiff’s closing last Thursday night during the impeachment trial. It was a brilliant piece of work. If by chance you didn’t see it, here it is on YouTube.
We have a lot of events and actions for you below so please read to the bottom for all the news.
IMPEACHMENT UPDATE
Yes, the impeachment trial continues. It’s getting more complicated because of the revelations from John Bolton’s book, but the new revelations give us a better chance to see witnesses testify at the trial, in particular John Bolton. This week there will be more votes on allowing witnesses and documents! We need to keep up the pressure.
As of now, the trial timeline is as follows: Trump’s lawyers will wrap up their arguments today. That will be followed by questions from Senators. On Wednesday or Thursday, Schumer is expected to offer a motion to call witnesses, including Bolton, and admit newly found documents. That only gives us a few more days to keep calling. Grassroots pressure has already forced Republicans to compromise on several aspects of this trial -- we can’t let them off the hook now. You can do two things to influence the vote on witnesses. #1. Call your senators. It’s a very quick call. It never takes me even a minute. All you need to do is give them your name and zip and then the message. They record your info and where you come down on the issue – for or against. Any more than that will not be recorded so no need to go on and on. Sen. Toomey – Phila office 215-241-1090; D.C. office 202-224-4254; email link Sen. Casey – Phila office 215-405-9660; D.C. office 202-224-6324; email link For Toomey – Tell him you want an open and fair trial and you demand to hear from witnesses and have documents submitted in the trial. At the very least Bolton must testify and produce his notes.
For Casey – Thank him for standing strong and demanding that witnesses testify at the trial. We must also see Bolton’s notes and relevant documents. #2. Call progressive voters in critical states and ask them to call their senators. Sign up to make some calls connecting voters to senators to demand a complete and fair impeachment trial. Back by popular demand, Indivisible is reactivating the Hubdialer program. We're asking you to call voters in 13 key swing states and ask them to turn up the pressure on their Senators. It’s a simple four-part process:You call a progressive voter in a key state with one of these 13 Republicans. These folks are your friends—they attended the Women’s March and/or fight for progressive causes. You explain how they have power now. You’ll remind them why the continued fight for impeachment is so important—and why they have particular power in this moment. You ask them to use their power. Then, you’ll ask them to call their senator and make their voices heard on why we’re demanding courage in this moment. You push a button and connect them to their senator’s office. The call tool will allow you to automatically patch them through to the senator’s DC office.

POSTCARDS
This week we’ll be writing postcards to voters in California to get out the vote for Ellen Beraud, running to flip a seat. And we’ll write again to voters in Florida to remind them to sign up to Vote By Mail (VBM). Here’s what the data show about VBM: For frequent Dem voters, VBM voters are 5% MORE likely to cast their ballots than non-VBM ones; For less-frequent voters, the increase among VBM voters was 34%; andFor infrequent voters the VBM turnout was 174% higher than the non-VBM voters! For brand new voters with no past voting history, but were registered Democrats, when they voted by mail they were 47% more likely to do so than their non-VBM peers. All you do is come with your writing hand and good humor. And bring a friend!
If you sign up and then find you can’t make it, please email us and let us know. We depend on having the right count! If you can, bring $5.00 to help defray the cost of postcards.
