Happy Election Day, Activists!  We hope you had a good weekend.  Here is the link to last Tuesday's newsletter with the many actions to take to move our democracy forward and push against the regime. Do all that, AFTER you vote!   Be sure to call our Senators and House members and demand they oppose $70 billion in ICE funding. Republicans are now trying to rush it through and hoping everyone is too distracted by other news to notice. We must be as loud as possible and show the GOP that we won’t be fooled into complacency when lives are on the line.   JOIN US FOR UPDATES ABOUT MOSHANNON  You may know about the Moshannnon Valley Processing Center and its cruel treatment of the people in detention there. With the Moshannon contract with the County up for renewal soon, Indivisibles have been working hard to convince the County Commissioners to cancel the contract.  To kick off the next steps across Pennsylvania, the Indivisible PA Statewide team is hosting a Zoom call to discuss Moshannon, the current timeline, and opportunities for all of us to take action to help close down this horrible facility.  This session will provide insight into the facility, our current priorities, opportunities for collaboration, and how we all can have an impact from anywhere.  The session will include time for Q&A.  When: May 26, 6:00 - 7:00 pm Where: Zoom   Election day is here!  Check this form to see if there was a problem with your mail-in ballot and you need to correct it today.   Polling places are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Remember, if you are in line when the polls close you'll still be able to vote.  Your mail-in ballot must be received at the election office by 8:00 pm TONIGHT. Otherwise drop it in one of the many Philadelphia Satellite Election Offices and drop boxes.  Make sure your mail-in ballot is counted! Check instructions in this good explainer with lots of details about mail-in ballots at the PA Department of State website.   Track your mail-in ballot at this ballot tracker.  Find the Satellite Election Offices here and the locations of all of the drop boxes here.    CELEBRATE AND REMEMBER ONA JUDGE AND HER COURAGE  When: Next Thursday, May 21, 3:30 PM Where: President's House Slavery Memorial, 6th and Market Streets  Ona "Oney" Judge was one of Washington's enslaved people and she courageously escaped enslavement. This event honors the anniversary of her courageous escape. Following the Roberts Court's disastrous ruling gutting the Voting Rights Act, there's no better time to show they are on the wrong side of history and we will never stop fighting for everyone's rights.  ![]()   Solidarity in Action: Showing Up for Immigrants Town Hall  You’ll hear from Bread & Roses grantees who are organizing on the frontlines in the fight against ICE. You’ll connect with friends and neighbors to talk about what solidarity looks like right now. And you’ll find ways to take meaningful action.  Thursday, May 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Where: The Center City Location provided at signup Register for this evening session here.   A Call to Elevate Health as a Governing Priority  This is a candlelight vigil to address the devastating cuts to Medicaid that have already happened and worse things planned when the next budget is in effect. It is part of 7 days in June and is a grassroots-driven campaign to focus on how funding cuts will devastate local communities. It is sponsored by various local groups.  Candlelight Vigil When: June 5th, 8:15 - 8:45 pm Where: 2401 Pennsylvania Ave Philadelphia PA 10130   OUR NEXT CITIZENS PROTEST - ANOTHER NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION! Let's keep up the pressure, pressure, pressure ![]() |
Join us and thousands of people across the country on Saturday, June 6th to send Citizens Bank a clear message: financing private prison and immigration detention facility operators The GEO Group and CoreCivic is bad for business. We'll be at Philadelphia branches at 11:00. Citizens Bank is bankrolling the country’s two largest prison companies that are earning record profits operating dozens of ICE detention facilities. While most major banks have cut ties with CoreCivic and The GEO Group, Citizens Bank is deepening its financial support for these companies, which are already holding more than half of the 70,000 immigrants currently in ICE detention centers across the country.  Please bring your signs! Some ideas are: De-ICE Citizens Bank; Cages Aren't Communities; Citizens Bank - Stop Financing ICE Prisons; Citizens Bank + ICE = Human Rights Abuse; ICE Prisons Don't Strengthen Our Communities; Citizens Bank - Cut Ties With ICE Prisons; or think up one of your own! We love to see them.  Where: 1515 Market Street, Philadelphia When: Saturday, June 6, 11:00 - Noon |
