Ukraine + The Fed + SCOTUS

Happy Tuesday, Activists, We know this is another tough week, as we stay glued to the news on the horrific Russia war on Ukraine. You can see below how to donate to help. We know our work in 2020 was well worth every minute of our time. And now, watching President Biden bring countries in Europe and around the world together to make Putin pay for his outrageous attacks is yet more proof of it. But the list of declining democracies is far too long. We've watched Putin's long anti-democratic power plays over the past many years, we've seen the expansion of autocracies around the world, and we are watching the anti-democratic laws in Republican-held states here at home. That means one thing for us – in this critical moment we know we can't stop now!

So first, if possible, you can donate to Ukrainian support groups here. Next, find out what we have planned for this year and how you can make a difference in getting Democrats elected. Come to this week's Kickoff Meeting.

THIS WEEK – KICK OFF 2022 WITH US! Join us this Thursday or Friday when we kick off our plans for this year. This year's elections are critical as we work our hearts out to elect the Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate and PA Governor seats in November. The alternatives are just plain unacceptable and we’ll do everything we can to elect the candidates who will sustain our democracy.

We’re holding this meeting twice so you can pick which day and time work for you. As usual, it will be on Zoom. When: Thursday, March 3, at 7:30 pm Sign up here. When: Friday, March 4, at 1:00 pm Sign up here.

CALL TO ACTION - 2 ITEMS Sen. Casey – Phila office 215-405-9660; D.C. 202-224-6324; email link. Sen. Toomey – Phila office 215-241-1090; D.C. 202-224-4254; email link For outside PA: Find your Senators’ phone numbers and emails at this link. FIRST – For all their talk about inflation, Republicans seem all too willing to sabotage the very agency tasked with addressing inflation and helping our economy recover – the Federal Reserve. President Biden nominated five incredibly qualified nominees to the Federal Reserve Board. To be confirmed, these nominees must go through the Senate Banking Committee. Unfortunately, Republicans on the committee, led by Sen. Toomey, have engaged in bad-faith attacks, particularly on nominee Sarah Bloom Raskin (yes, Congressman Jamie Raskin’s highly qualified wife), and refused to even show up to the Committee hearing. To move these nominees to a confirmation vote on the Senate floor, Senate Banking needs a “quorum” (a majority of members present), which means we need just one Republican to break ranks and show up to the Committee hearing. We don’t even need them to vote “yes,” we only need them to show up to their jobs like the rest of us. Call Senator Toomey and tell him to do his job and show up the Senate Banking Committee meetings to consider these nominees to the Federal Reserve Board. After you make the call, check out this tweet from our friends at Indivisibile Bucks County. SECOND – President Biden has nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to fill Justice Breyer’s upcoming Supreme Court vacancy – following through on his promise to nominate the first Black woman to serve as a justice. But Republicans are determined to ruin this moment for us. We knew what was coming: An attack from the right, steeped in racism and misogyny, seeking to undermine her expertise and credibility. We need to have her back in the face of these bad faith, racist attacks. Call both our senators and tell them you expect them to confirm Judge Jackson without delay.

POSTCARDS Write to Philly Voters!

We love the Philly vibe in our new postcards! And it echoes today's theme of moving forward. The cards are on order and we expect to receive them this week. We’ll send them out to all you postcard writers as soon as we receive them. We are writing postcards to persuade Philly voters who don’t normally vote in midterm elections to change their habit and vote this year. We must secure Democratic victories for the open U.S. Senate seat and the open PA Governor’s seat and this is one way to do it. Here’s how it works – We recommend you order enough cards to write and mail within a month of receiving them. We’ll hand deliver or ship the packet of postcards to you. We’ll email you all the instructions, addresses, and the script. Please order your postcards in multiples of 50. We ask that you donate $7.00 per set of 50 postcards to cover our costs. But don’t let the donation stop you from ordering the postcards. On the other hand, if you can, please consider chipping in a little extra to cover the cost for those who cannot. Here are the Three Separate Action Steps to sign up – 1. Email us at this link and tell us how many postcards you want and give us your delivery address. 2. Donate $7.00 per set of 50 postcards to our ActBlue account at this link. (Plus an extra $5.00 if we are shipping to you.) 3. Purchase your 40-cent postcard stamps online at this link or at your local post office. Here’s how you’ll receive your postcard packets – If you are in the Philadelphia area, we will hand deliver the postcard packets to you or you can pick them up. If you are outside the Philadelphia area, we will ship the packet to you. Please add $5.00 to your donation for shipping costs.
