Happy Tuesday, Activists! We hope your week is starting out well. Whew! We have an action-packed one for you today. We suspect you're sick of hearing about the corrupt shenanigans (to put it nicely) by Justices Thomas and Alito and of seeing the Senate do nothing about it. And another scandal was reported this week! We have a quick action you can take, below. And then you can call our senators and reinforce the message. Plus more actions below!
CALL TO ACTION -- SIGN THIS LETTER TO SENS. SCHUMER AND DURBIN The Supreme Court continues to show us that it's a massive ball of corruption. Justice Thomas has accepted millions in lavish gifts, travel, and more and had to file a corrections section in his most recent disclosure form. And Justice Alito has tried to excuse his own lavish trips paid by wealthy benefactors by stating -- incorrectly -- that “No provision in the Constitution gives [Congress] the authority to regulate the Supreme Court -- period” in the Wall Street Journal, So now, we are in a SCOTUS legitimacy crisis that the justices themselves have made. And note that Congress does, in fact, have the constitutional authority to restore integrity to the court. So Indivisible is partnering with other groups to send a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin urging them to address these instances of blatant corruption. The Senate has no choice but to subpoena Justices Thomas, Alito, and their billionaire benefactors as well as launch a full-scale investigation in the Senate Judiciary Committee, and other relevant committees, into the ethical crisis engulfing the Supreme Court. Sign Indivisible Project’s letter asking Sen. Schumer and Sen. Durbin to do just that!
NEXT -- CALL OUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM WE WANT TO SEE SUBPOENAS AND HEARINGS Let's make sure our senators know that we expect this rampant corruption by certain justices to be investigated and that laws must be passed to prevent it in the future and mandate disclosure and recusals where there are conflicts of interest. THURSDAY - GUESS WHO'S COMING TO PHILLY? BE THERE TO "WELCOME HIM" Yes, the twice-impeached, quadruple-indicted former president will be at the Union League on Broad Street this Thursday for a fundraiser. So we plan to "welcome" him to town. We will be holding a rally with our friends from Philly Neighborhood Networks outside the Union League.
