Happy Friday, Activists!
We hope you're managing all of the horrible incoming news this week. BUT there is good news too!
First, Avelo Airlines has quit it's deportation flights for ICE! Yes, they will no longer fly people abducted off the streets, from their workplaces and homes, to detention camps. For months various groups, including our friends in Delaware Indivisible groups, have worked hard protesting at airports, writing to cities to end the subsidies they paid to Avelo to use their airports (we're looking at you Wilmington) and other pressure campaigns. And it has worked! A big shoutout to those hardworking groups!
AND, Spotify has announced it will no longer air ICE recruiting ads! After Indivisible pushed for a boycott of the Spotify premium membership, it worked! In fact the article mentions Indivisible's efforts. Another big congratulations to all who took part in the boycott!!
So, in case you were wondering, we can see definite evidence that our work is taking effect.
You can see this week's calls to action in Tuesday's newsletter here.
ICE OUT FOR GOOD PROTEST TOMORROW
Wednesday, January 7th, an American citizen was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This killing is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities.
Join us at City Hall at 10:00 tomorrow for a rally and march. We'll meet and gather and then march to the federal Detention Center at 700 Arch Street. The walk is under one mile and normally takes about 20 minutes. Our friends at Peace, Justice, Sustainability Now are starting a rally at this location at 11:00 and we'll join them there. Sign up here so you get any updates.
Bring your signs and voices. We'll have chants along the way. And bring your umbrellas in case it rains! Sign up here.
This event is part of a broad coalition of groups across the country calling for a coordinated Ice Out For Good Weekend of Action this Saturday and Sunday to demand accountability, honor the life lost, and make visible the human cost of ICE’s actions.
A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property. |

JOIN OUR LEAFLET PHILLY TEAM!
Join this exciting team and hang door hangers once a month. It's easy and effective!
Here's how it works. You'll receive 100 door hangers to hang on door knobs up and down the block. We'll give you the specific blocks near your home for you to go to.
We're currently dropping 54,000 door hangers around the city right now - that's 10% of the city's reachable doors! We're reminding people that those higher food prices for their holiday meals are not in their imagination - plus who is causing it and who to call about it.
