Happy Tuesday, Activists!
We hope you're having a good week so far. Last week we announced two new exciting events and today we have a couple of updates on them. Our Philadelphia NO KINGS protest on June 14th has a new location. And below you'll see the signup link for our empty chair town hall, featuring our guest speaker Congressman Jamie Raskin.
We must show up at both of these events to show that we are not taking the chaos and corruption of the Trump regime and that we demand change. And we need to spread the word to our friends and family and tell them they need to come too.
The change we need will not come from our elected officials - it will only come when we call them out on their failure to protect our rights and our most vulnerable neighbors. We must keep up the protests, make the calls, write the letters. We must make our elected officials represent us or we'll make them squirm and wonder if their seats are at risk if they don't fight with all the tools they have. ![]() As we said last week, June 14th is Flag Day. It's also the day Trump has announced a big military parade for his birthday. And it's the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army.
It makes no sense for activists to be in D.C. that day because it would only help make the president's day a success. As a result, Philadelphia has been selected as the NATIONAL ANCHOR EVENT FOR JUNE 14TH! We're very excited about this!
This location has changed because of permitting issues. We will start at Love Park, 15th and JFK Boulevard, at Noon. Then we'll march to the Art Museum, which is where we'll have our rally. Sign up here.
Once you sign up we can update you on any more details as we know them. |
![]() OUR NEXT EXCITING MEETING! MEET CONGRESSMAN JAMIE RASKIN
We are excited to announce that we will have a virtual Town Hall on May 28th at 5:30 pm. Our special guest will be Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin! He'll give us his thoughts on where we are now, what we must do next, and he'll answer your questions.
We'll meet on Zoom at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 28th.
CALLS TO ACTION
Republicans are about to announce what they have planned for their budget deal. HINT: It's awful for all of us.
For more information, here is what the key provisions are expected to include: Kicking 14 million Americans off their healthcare through historic cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act Taking food off the table of roughly 9 million families per month -- including millions of children and senior citizens -- by cutting SNAP benefits Forcing billions of dollars of new healthcare and food assistance costs onto state and local governments -- likely driving huge cuts in infrastructure and other services that will cost thousands of jobs Job losses, service reductions, and even outright closures at hospitals nationwide, particularly in rural communities
We must make sure our Democratic officials have found their backbone and will fight against these cuts with all the tools they have. And we must remind our Republican officials that we will not stand for tax cuts for the rich and cuts to essential programs for everyone else.
1. Call our House members and our Senators and tell them they must stop the cuts.
2. Make calls about Funding SEPTA -- Here are the details of what SEPTA does for us in this recent newsletter. Check out how you'll be affected at this link.
Call your PA State legislator and find them here. Tell them to stay strong and fight for good SEPTA funding, no holding back. AND call PA Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (717) 787-8724 and tell him that we are the economic engine of this state, we contribute more funding for the rest of the state than any other region, and that we deserve a healthy SEPTA to stay the thriving region that we are.
3. Bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia Home Calls and emails might not be enough to end this immigration crisis, but they are necessary to ensure our elected officials understand we are not moving on until Abrego Garcia is home and the disappearances end.

LEAFLET PHILLY!
We're gearing up for our next round of leaflets - this time about the cuts to medical research. Sign up here to join this fantastic team.
This project is a fun, easy way to increase voter engagement across Philadelphia (and maybe burn off some of that anxiety we're all feeling).
Each month we design a door hanger with a simple, timely and compelling message for our neighbors. The door hangers will link Republicans to the chaos and misery they create and show Philadelphians how they can take action — with the goals of moving people into action and of increasing voter turnout over the next four years. Sign up here. You'll get 100 door hangers to simply hang on every door up and down blocks near you. It’s quick and easy — no knocking, no lists, just leave the leaflet on the door and stroll on to the next one! You pick the day that’s most convenient for you and repeat a month later.
