May Day Rally With Bernie!

Happy Tuesday, Activists!

We hope you're having a good week and enjoying this most pleasant Spring weather.

You can see the details for the most recent Calls To Action from last Tuesday's newsletter at this link.  We also have a new way you can spread the word about the need to make sure the PA budget includes full funding for SEPTA below.  And that they need to make the calls to our state Senators to make sure the funding is in the budget bills.

And of course, this week's exciting May Day Rally! 👇🏼👇🏼

MAY DAY NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION

We'll show that We The People are Indivisible.

This Thursday, come out to the May Day Rally at City Hall at 4:00!   And guess who will be there as one of the speakers?!?  Yes, Senator Bernie Sanders will be in town speaking at the rally.

Come show that we won't stand for the administration's attempt to blame immigrants,  Diversity Equity and Inclusion programs, and our trans siblings, all while they pick our pockets for the benefit of billionaires.  This is a moment for working people to remind ourselves - and the billionaires controlling our government - of our power.

As one more reminder, we originally planned a rally on May 1 on Independence Mall.  But we decided it made more sense to join this rally at City Hall at 4:00, planned by a group of unions and other organizations.  So come to City Hall at 4:00 this Thursday and remind the administration of our power.

SEPTA FUNDING

USE THIS APP TO LEARN WHAT YOU CAN DO

A new, local website and app are making it easier to spread the word about the cuts to SEPTA service if the funding is not added into the state budget to keep SEPTA properly funded, and so that we keep the essential services it provides.  You can see more here on the website

For a refresher, check out the details of what SEPTA does for us in this recent newsletter.  Check out how you'll be affected at this link.

Call your PA State legislator and find them here.  Tell them to stay strong and fight for good SEPTA funding, no holding back.

AND call PA Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (717) 787-8724 and tell him that we are the economic engine of this state, we contribute more funding for the rest of the state than any other region, and that we deserve a healthy SEPTA to stay the thriving region that we are.  Again,

CALLS TO ACTION

There are so many actions we can and need to take. So today we are giving you links to the actions we've had in previous newsletters so you can keep making those calls and sending emails.

1.  Bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia Home

Calls and emails might not be enough to end this immigration crisis, but they are necessary to ensure our elected officials understand we are not moving on until Abrego Garcia is home and the disappearances end.

2.  Sat "NO" to the tax scam that hurts us and helps billionaires.

They’re planning to slash funding to Medicaid, SNAP, early education programs, and countless other programs that working families rely on, all to give billionaires massive handouts.  In particular for this week, call our senators and demand they fight any cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.

3.  Say "NO" to the SAVE ACT.  House Republicans passed one of the most extreme voter suppression bills we’ve seen, and we need to make sure it dies in the Senate.

LEAFLET PHILLY!

We told you this is a fun, easy way to increase voter engagement across Philadelphia (and maybe burn off some of that anxiety we are all feeling).  Well, our leaflet volunteers are going out there right now delivering our door hangers on doors in their neighborhoods, and here's a recap from Mary, one of our leaflet volunteers:

"Thank you to the gentleman who dropped the leaflets at my house yesterday evening. I distributed my packet this morning. It only took 30 minutes for 2 blocks. For the next distribution in May, I can do more at least 2 packets(200) easily if you need more help in my area.Thank you for what you are doing to bring our democracy back to life. I’m happy to be a small part of it."

Here's how it works.  Each month we will design a door hanger with a simple, timely and compelling message for our neighbors. April's has been about tariffs.  The door hangers will link Republicans to the chaos and misery they create and show Philadelphians how they can take action — with the goals of moving people into action and of increasing voter turnout over the next four years.  Sign up here. You'll get 100 door hangers to simply hang on every door up and down the block.  It’s quick and easy — no knocking, no lists, just leave the leaflet on the door and stroll on to the next one! Y ou pick the day that’s most convenient for you and repeat a month later.

Sign up here.
