Happy Friday, Activists!
We hope you've been having a good week. You can see this Tuesday's newsletter at this link with the Call To Action and all the World Cup video links. If you didn't look at the links to the fun videos you should - they are highly likely to bring you some joy! There are just a few - send us your favorites by replying to this email! Maybe we'll have more next week.
CALL TO ACTION
Good old Brendan Carr, Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, is at it again.
From Billy Penn: "The FCC began an early review of ABC stations’ licenses in April, citing an ongoing investigation into whether the network “engaged in prohibited practices by hiring, promoting, compensating, and/or providing workplace opportunities to people based on race, gender, or other protected characteristics in violation of federal nondiscrimination laws.” Read more detail at Billy Penn here. The FCC wants to control ABC's guest lineup for The View as well. invoking the "Equal Time" rule for politician guests. We call b.s. on all of it! And apparently the FCC is investigating Comcast too, which owns NBC stations.
But we can tell them what we think about their pathetic actions! Send a message to the FCC and tell them to leave ABC alone! You can fill out the FCC form at this link. The "FCC Proceeding" number for the first entry is 26-131.
TOMORROW - TELL THE WORLD WE WANT ICE OUT! ![]() Right now the eyes of the world are on North America - including Philadelphia. We have an historic opportunity to force the issue of ICE’s human rights abuses onto the global stage. We'll be on Darien Street and Pattison Avenue tomorrow from 2:30 - 4:00 to do just that.
This is part of the Project World Cup Spotlight protests in eight World Cup cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico to harness the power of the world’s media. Our group is hosting this one, on the day of one of the six World Cup games in Philadelphia.
To be clear, we love the World Cup. We don't like ICE.
Media from across the globe will be present and local voices can shape international narratives. This is an opportunity to influence global perception and elevate our community's concerns. We believe the principles of fair play shouldn’t stop at the stadium walls. A disregard for human rights is unacceptable, and we must make that clear to the world.
Make your signs with this type of message! We'll have some signs for you too. And don't forget, you'll see fans from other countries too! It'll be so fun!
Where: Darien Street and Pattison Avenue on the sidewalk; across the street from Lincoln Financial Field (now called Philadelphia Stadium) on the side of Citizens Bank Park. When: Tomorrow, June 27, 2:30 - 4:00 (the game begins at 5:00)
