Our friends in NW Philly are holding a "Signfest" as part of the "Fight The Trump Takeover" national action. Signup and event details are here.

Attendees will hold signs to tell the public what's happening in Texas.  So bring your signs to denounce the gerrymandering that Texas Republicans are planning and that affects us all.

COME TO THE MOSHANNON DETENTION CENTER PROTEST

COME ON THE BUS WITH US!

This is very important so please consider coming.  As reported by WHYY, "A report by Temple law students and Juntos, a Philadelphia-based immigrant advocacy organization, documents testimonies describing 'inhumane, punitive and dangerous conditions' at Moshannon Valley Processing Center, a privately-operated Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center located in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania."

We have paid for the bus and we'll provide snacks and water.  The bus also has a bathroom. We ask that you donate $15.00 when you sign up.  You can donate here.

Where:  Our bus will leave from 30th Street Station.  The rally will take place at a park in the center of Phillipsburg, PA.

When: Sunday, August 24, 10:00 AM to 9:00 - 10:00 PM (approximately)

Sign up here.   Donate $15 here.

Last night 130 of you showed up!

We held our One Million Rising meeting last night and the folks who were there had so much energy and so many great ideas.  We'll collate all the pillars of autocracy they identified they are in, connect the dots, and report back to them what comes next.  We'll hold the follow-up meeting soon.

And for all of you in Northwest Philly -- we are about to announce our meeting there very soon.  So stay tuned!

Update on No Mask for ICE Legislation

One of the questions raised last night was about whether there is legislation to prohibit ICE and other law enforcement from wearing masks and forcing them to wear insignias and their names to identify themselves.  Good news!  Yesterday State Senator Nikil Saval held a news conference, with other elected officials, to announce the bill he and State Sen. Amanda Cappelletti are introducing in the state senate to do just that.  You may know the House already passed such legislation.

RALLY FOR SEPTA FUNDING

PA Senate Republican leadership approved a bill that steals money from public transit in Philly and across Pennsylvania - and they're trying to say we should like it. We're not falling for it.

There will be rallies in front of Senator Joe Picozzi's office in Philadelphia to call him out, along with Senator Frank A. Farry, Senator Tracy Pennycuick (and Senator Devlin Robinson in Pittsburgh). These Republicans all voted to sell out their districts that all rely on public transit - and then chose to lie about it.

Join this rally to demand our state senators pass real transit funding solutions, and ensure that all PA communities have the transit service - and the elected representation - that they deserve.

Where:  Senator Joe Picozzi's District Office

12361 Academy Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154

When: Tuesday, August 19, 5:30 - 7:00 PM

MEET THE JUSTICES RUNNING FOR RETENTION IN NOVEMBER

Three Democratic PA Supreme Court justices are running for retention to remain on the court on November 4.  And luckily for us, two of them - Justices Dougherty and Donohue - will join us in a zoom meeting to talk about the importance of court decisions in our lives and why this election matters so much to us and our communities.  You won't want to miss it.

Join us on Wednesday, September 3 at 5:30 for this super interesting meeting.

Where:  Zoom

When:  September 3, 5:30 PM

ABOUT THOSE CONSTANT DONATION TEXTS AND EMAILS . . .

On Tuesday we told you about the company abusing your donation funds.  If you donate $100 only $1.60 goes to a candidate or campaign.  It's called Mothership Strategies and you can read all about it here in Tuesday's newsletter.

If you want to make sure most of your donation dollars go to a candidate's campaign and not to a cadre of outside consultants, you can just type "Stop" in all those texts and unsubscribe from the emails.  Then switch to donating directly to candidates on their campaign websites.

WE ARE AMERICA MARCH

SEPTEMBER 6 - 19

This march is from Philadelphia to D.C. and you can sign up for an hour, a day, or the entire trip.  They have the meals and lodging already taken care of.  Find out more here.

The group is marching because the promises of the Constitution are being broken. But across the country, people aren’t standing by—they’re standing up.

As they describe it:

They’re dismantling the Constitution. We’re marching to save it.

The American promises of liberty and justice are being broken. We march to defend them.

Our government works for us—not above us. We the People are taking our country back.

The kickoff is Saturday morning Sept 6 at 9:30 at Independence Mall so come out and cheer them on!

Find out more here.
