TAKE ACTION ABOUT MOSHANNON

We've got a few things here for you that were discussed during the Moshannon informational meeting and some followup items.  Check them out below and decide what you can do.

—> You can fill out this form to let the organizers you saw in the meeting know you want to help.

—> Read up on Occupy the Lot, where activists will gather near the detention center to protest.

—> Consider joining the bus sponsored by Live Free Philly going to protest on June 18th.  Live Free Philly is a movement that calls on people of conscience to stand in prayer, witness, and community action against profit -driven inhuman confinement. More information and sign up HERE.

--> NEW:  On Thursday, May 28 PA Congress members, Summer Lee and Chris DeLuzio made news by being the first to be let into the Moshannon Valley immigration detention facility to perform an inspection without 7 days prior notice since Trump took office. They made observations they deemed problematic, such as inadequate health care and language services.

The Indivisible folks at our Moshannon meeting would love it if you would call and write to their offices to thank them for listening to their constituents and others in the state and inspecting the facility - as much as they were permitted. We also would like you to ask them, “What is next? What are your next steps towards remediating the problems you observed?”

OUR NEXT CITIZENS PROTEST - ANOTHER NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION!

Let's keep up the pressure, pressure, pressure

Join us and thousands of people across the country on Saturday, June 6th to send Citizens Bank a clear message: financing private prison and immigration detention facility operators The GEO Group and CoreCivic is bad for business. We'll be at Philadelphia branches at 11:00.

Citizens Bank is bankrolling the country’s two largest prison companies that are earning record profits operating dozens of ICE detention facilities. While most major banks have cut ties with CoreCivic and The GEO Group, Citizens Bank is deepening its financial support for these companies, which are already holding more than half of the 70,000 immigrants currently in ICE detention centers across the country.

And bring your signs!  Some ideas are: De-ICE Citizens Bank; Cages Aren't Communities; Citizens Bank - Stop Financing ICE Prisons; Citizens Bank + ICE = Human Rights Abuse; ICE Prisons Don't Strengthen Our Communities; Citizens Bank - Cut Ties With ICE Prisons; or think up one of your own!  We love to see them.

Three protests for you on Saturday, June 6.  Check the times for each.

1. 1515 Market Street, Philadelphia, 11:00 - Noon

Sign up here.

2.  Chestnut Hill Branch, 8623 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, 10:00 - 11:00

Sign up here.

3.  2001 S Broad St, Philadelphia, Noon - 1:00 pm

JOIN OUR WRITING CAMPAIGN AGANST CITIZENS BANK

Write Some Letters! They make a difference!

This project just got going last week when we started writing our letters to Citizens Bank management.  You should join the team!  It's easy to do and we give you all the ideas for your letters and the contact information for who to write to.

Not only are we protesting in front of their branches, now, we are directly telling Citizens to stop funding GEO Group and Core Civic, the two biggest private detention camp contractors.  Sign up here!

These two private prison companies make millions off our taxpayer dollars while they harm the people in their facilities - by withholding necessary medical care, illegally putting people in solitary confinement, and using other inhumane conditions.  Which is why we are protesting Citizens, a major funder of these companies.

We've been telling people about what they are doing so they can help De-ICE Citizens.  After we write to Citizens management we will write to other organizations that bank with or support Citizens.  It's very fulfilling work!  Sign up here

Tell the world we want ICE out!

This June and July, the eyes of the world will be on North America - including Philadelphia. We have an historic opportunity to force the issue of ICE’s human rights abuses onto the global stage.

Project World Cup Spotlight is mobilizing non-violent protests, hosted by a variety of local organizations, in eight World Cup cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico to harness the power of the world’s media.  Our group is hosting this one, on the day of one of the six World Cup games here.

This campaign connects local action to global impact because the world will be watching the U.S.  Media from across the globe will be present and local voices can shape international narratives This is an opportunity to influence global perception and elevate our community's concerns.

We believe the principles of fair play shouldn’t stop at the stadium walls. A disregard for human rights is unacceptable, and we must make that clear to the world.

Where:  1100 Pattison Ave. on the sidewalk; across the street from Lincoln Financial Field (now called Philadelphia Stadium on the side of Citizens Bank Park)

When:  Saturday, June 27, 2:30 - 4:00 (the game begins at 5:00)

Sign up here.

Sex education helps our students reject fascism!

You may not know that sex education gives young people the tools to stick up for themselves and each other, build healthy relationships and communities, and reject disinformation when they see it. That’s exactly why sex education threatens fascism, and also why fighting for it is so important.

EducateUS is making it easy to do just that. And it's super easy!  Join their School Your School Board campaign by filling out this quick form and they will send their School Board Member's Guide to Sex Education to your local school board members, asking them to support and defend sex education. Local, direct action doesn’t get more local and direct than that!
