Happy Tuesday, Activists!
We hope you had a good weekend. If you missed it, check out our newsletter from last Tuesday at this link for more information. We also have two new protests at the bottom.
Our Leaflet Philly project is going strong so make sure you sign up to be part of it! It's easy, fun, and quick - and effective to get people to take action. See more below and sign up here.
![]() MOSHANNON DETENTION CENTER PROTEST
Our bus to this protest is full but there are a couple of other buses that still have seats available. Reply to this email if you are interested in getting a seat.
If you signed up and still need to donate your $15.00, please donate here. |
![]() Our Next One Million Rising Meeting - In NW Philly This Time!
We are having another in-person meeting - this time in NW Philly - where we'll plan the ways we all can practice effective non-cooperation, just as the team discussed in the Indivisible trainings. We'll talk about the pillars of support of the autocracy and how we can convince a pillar it's not in their interest to cooperate.
First, we'll have a quick review of why we are doing this and how this strategy works in breaking down the pillars of the autocracy's support. Then we'll meet in small groups to discuss what part of a pillar each of us is involved in. Are we in an alumni association, a professional association, a faith group, are you just a consumer? This is where your power lies and that's what we'll talk about. This is your power! Sign up here.
Please invite a couple of friends and neighbors too and they can join your small group. And we'll have pizza and beverages!
Join our next One Million Rising meeting, this time at the Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting House, 20 E Mermaid Ln, Philadelphia, PA 19118
MORE SUPPORT FOR ANOU
New project: Everyone can write a letter or send a postcard of support to Anou! The detention camp makes three copies of everything that comes in, so let’s drive them crazy so they want him to go home!!
Here's the address: Moshannon Valley ICE Processing Center, 555 GEO Drive Phillipsburg PA 16866 Attn: Anovsack Vongbandith A025196578 #18L. OR - you can also drop your letter off at Das Good Cafe, 322 West Chelten Avenue in Germantown, and the support group will send it for you.
CALL/EMAIL GOVERNOR SHAPIRO TO PUSH AGAINST TEXAS GERRYMANDERING
Use Indivisible's call page and email template to contact Governor Shapiro and tell him to take the Come and Take It Pledge—publicly commit now to welcome targeted lawmakers, refuse cooperation with partisan law enforcement, and call on DOJ to investigate.
TOMORROW - PHILLY RESPONSE TO D.C. TAKEOVER
Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 20th, 11:00AM, 1501 Cherry Street
By deploying the National Guard and putting D.C.’s police under federal command, the regime has positioned D.C. as a “model” for mass arrests, expanded mandatory minimums, rollback of police oversight, and aggressive surveillance.
Join Philly Neighborhood Network and the Coalition to Defend Democracy for this press conference at the Friends Center, located at 1501 Cherry Street. This is a necessary first step in fighting back against this authoritarian power grab.
![]() MEET THE JUSTICES RUNNING FOR RETENTION IN NOVEMBER
Three Democratic PA Supreme Court justices are running for retention to remain on the court on November 4. And luckily for us, two of them - Justices Dougherty and Donohue - will join us in a zoom meeting to talk about the importance of court decisions in our lives and why this election matters so much to us and our communities. You won't want to miss it.
Join us on Wednesday, September 3 at 5:30 for this super interesting meeting.
Where: Zoom When: September 3, 5:30 PM
ABOUT THOSE CONSTANT DONATION TEXTS AND EMAILS . . .
On Tuesday we told you about the company abusing your donation funds. If you donate $100 only $1.60 goes to a candidate or campaign. It's called Mothership Strategies and you can read all about it here in last Tuesday's newsletter.
If you want to make sure most of your donation dollars go to a candidate's campaign and not to a cadre of outside consultants, you can just type "Stop" in all those texts and unsubscribe from the emails. Then switch to donating directly to candidates on their campaign websites.
![]() WE ARE AMERICA MARCH SEPTEMBER 6 - 19
This march is from Philadelphia to D.C. and you can sign up for an hour, a day, or the entire trip. They have the meals and lodging already taken care of. Find out more here.
The group is marching because the promises of the Constitution are being broken. But across the country, people aren’t standing by—they’re standing up.
As they describe it: They’re dismantling the Constitution. We’re marching to save it. The American promises of liberty and justice are being broken. We march to defend them. Our government works for us—not above us. We the People are taking our country back.
The kickoff is Saturday morning Sept 6 at 9:30 at Independence Mall. So come out and cheer them on!
VOTER REGISTRATION IS BACK! BUT FIRST JOIN US FOR A TRAINING
We're planning to hold voter registration events all over Philadelphia on National Voter Registration Day, on September 16th. We'll have the details on those soon and we hope you'll sign up to do these!
But first, and to be ready for the big day, we're holding two fun refreshers and trainings to make sure everyone knows how to confidently register voters so you're all ready to go. Join us!
Where: Zoom When: 2 dates: August 27 at 5:30 PM September 2 at 5:30 PM Sign up for one of the trainings here.
LEAFLET PHILLY!
Sign up now to be part of the September leaflet drop, just in time for the start of the school year (see the August leaflet below)! This program is for people who live in Philadelphia, as at the moment we can't assign blocks for those in other counties. Sign up here to join this fantastic team.
You'll get 100 door hangers to simply hang on every door up and down blocks near you. It’s quick and easy — no knocking, just leave the leaflet on the door and stroll on to the next one!
