![]() CALLS TO ACTION
1. Keep Calling and Emailing Congress - No more money for ICE!
Congress is scrambling to pass a DHS funding bill by Friday, and we need to make it loud and clear that our senators and representatives must oppose any bill that hands ICE and Border Patrol more funding or fails to include strict safeguards to protect our communities. Call and email your House Members, then be sure to call our senators during business hours. Contact info below.
2. Thursday - Join this virtual training to learn practical, actionable lessons on organizing from Minnesota’s resistance.
Organizers in Minnesota have transformed crisis into action and tragedy into solidarity. On Thursday, Feb 12 at 7pm ET, those organizers and MN leaders including Rep. Ilhan Omar will share what they’ve learned so we can all be better prepared to organize amidst crises and protect our neighbors from ICE and Border Patrol deployments.
3. Call your representative - Tell them to oppose the infamous SAVE Act.
Last Congress, we helped defeat the SAVE Act, one of the worst voter suppression bills in a half century. Now, a series of bills with the same impact (ending registration by mail, adding new ID requirements that could prevent millions of eligible voters from registering) could get a vote in the House this week. Make sure your rep hears from you before the vote.
Here are the contacts to call and write: Sen. McCormick – Phila office 215-405-9660; D.C. office 202-224-6324; email link Sen. ![]() SAVE THE DATE!
As you know, the next No Kings is coming in six weeks! 😮 We'll have a lot more information about it coming to you soon. But for now, we're gearing up and first things first.
As you know, this event is very costly for our group, and Indivisible is not able to help with funding this time around. So we need to raise money again to pay for the production and other costs to accommodate what promises to be a very large event again. When we came to you before the last No Kings you responded with tremendous generosity and we are so very grateful. We are planning some fundraising options again and today we are announcing one of them.
We have been given the opportunity to host a dinner at LeVirtu, the beloved Italian restaurant on Passyunk Avenue. LeVirtu will close the restaurant for us as we host a wonderful 4-course menu of Italian specialties and wine, mainly from the Abruzzo region and Southern Italy.
So for now please save the date! We'll have all the details next week but we wanted to put it on your radar now.
JOIN LEAFLET PHILLY!
You don't want to miss this! Join this exciting team and hang door hangers once a month. It's easy and effective!
Here's how it works. You'll receive 100 door hangers to hang on door knobs up and down the block. We'll give you the specific blocks near your home for you to go to.
We're currently dropping about 54,000 door hangers around the city right now - that's 10% of the city's reachable doors! This month we're reminding people that those higher healthcare costs they are seeing are real - plus who is causing it and who to call about it. The QR code on the door hanger takes them to an explainer for how the changes to the ACA and Medicaid affect all of us. |
