 CALL TO ACTION

Tell Congress - Stop ICE Warehouses

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is spending millions on warehouses they plan to repurpose as ICE detention "mega-centers" to hold as many as 10,000 human beings per warehouse. And here in Pennsylvania too.  Draft layouts show "pods" in which individuals are to be held, each pod crammed tightly against the next. The risks and trauma inherent to such crowding almost don't bear mentioning -- because to do so suggests a world in which there is a good way to warehouse human beings. There isn't.  One is the size of 12 football fields and they want to build double it with a second story.

Across the country, concerned Americans have already shown they're unwilling to sit by as these new concentration camps are built and filled. Instead, they've been fighting back and winning -- even in some deep red districts. In Utah, Minnesota, and Oklahoma, from Marshall County, MS to Hanover County, VA, grassroots pressure has swayed politicians and property owners, successfully preventing the sale of commercial spaces to DHS - even a few Republicans.

So the local opposition is starting to work.  We need to keep up the pressure and call and write to our senators and House members to demand that they publicly use every tool at their disposal to oppose any proposed expansion of DHS detention facilities in our community and around the country.

We cannot accept these proposed horrifying build-outs anywhere - these facilities are well documented as holding human beings in dangerous and horrifying conditions. The facilities already detain over 70,000 people a year, and new “mega-warehouses” will lead to even more people held in inhumane, dangerous conditions.

Tell our electeds to use their power to reject localized expansions of Trump’s mass detention and deportation agenda.

Your support is crucial to make No Kings 3 a success and show in no uncertain terms that we stand against the authoritarian takeover of our government. We expect the crowd to be bigger than ever as we show our power against this regime.

We can't go further without acknowledging and thanking Francis Cretarola and Cathy Lee, our gracious hosts and owners of the glorious, welcoming restaurant Le Virtu.  Our memorable dinner there this week was a reminder that we are united in this fight and that we can find joy in being together.  We are so grateful not only for their generosity and support but also we thank all of the guests who came to support No Kings.  It was simply wonderful to be together in these trying times.
