Protest works!

Happy Tuesday, Activists!

Shanah tovah for all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah.  We do have happy news from yesterday.  And proof that - at least sometimes - protest works.  I know so many of you called 6 ABC or emailed Nextstar and contacted them otherwise to complain about their capitulation and Jimmy Kimmel Live! suspension and to tell them they must bring the show back.  And it worked!  Pressuring companies works and hopefully CBS/Colbert will be next. We're sick of their greed and capitulation.

And of course, see below for election actions you can take.  These are super important because November 4th will be here before you know it.

TWO RECENT VIDEOS

Here are the videos from our two recent meetings that you are telling us you really liked.  We are grateful for you are sharing them far and wide!

1). PA Justices meeting video  Here is the link.  Please share it far and wide

2). Professor Timothy Snyder meeting video - Please share this one so people see what's at stake. Here is the link.

CITIZENS BANK PROTESTS

Citizens Bank has long financed private prison and detention facility companies even though there have been years of allegations of forced labor, healthcare neglect, and other abuses. Citizens is a lender to companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group, which have caused widespread, documented harm to people in their facilities.

Here in Pennsylvania, GEO operates the Moshannon Valley Processing Center, the largest ICE detention facility in the Northeast.  It is where most of our neighbors are taken after ICE abducts them off the street.

Join us at our protests outside Citizen branches - this coming Saturday at the two listed below.  We'll have handouts for you to give people walking by and you can bring your signs!

When:  Saturday, September 27, 10:00AM to 11:30AM

Where: Two locations -

1515 Market Street - Sign up here

150 South Broad Street - Sign up here

CALL TO ACTION

Federal government funding runs out on September 30 – and Republicans need Democrats’ votes to clear the Senate filibuster and avoid a government shutdown.  The House passed a bill that was defeated in the Senate.  Democrats have real leverage here, and they MUST use it to protect our rights, healthcare, and essential services.

During the last big funding fight, Senator Fetterman surrendered – handing Trump a blank check to sow chaos. It was outright cowardice, and we deserve better this time around and he needs a big push from us to do the right thing.

Call Senator Fetterman and tell him you expect him to fight like hell to protect our care and communities!

Call Senator McCormick and tell him to publicly back BIPARTISAN funding that protects healthcare – or pay the price for causing a shutdown!

Here are the contacts:

Sen. McCormick – Phila office 215-405-9660; D.C. office 202-224-6324; email link

Sen. Fetterman – Phila office 215-241-1090; D.C. 202-224-4254; email link

For outside PA:  Find your senators’ phone numbers and emails at this link.

POSTCARDS!

Check out yesterday's newsletter with all the detail for our new postcard campaign.  One additional note about it: if you are in Northwest Philly, we'll have two locations nearby where you can pick up your postcards.  We'll let you know the specific locations once you sign up.

The simple story is that you can fill out this form to order the postcards and give us all the information we need to fulfill your postcard request.  You will receive a confirmation email from us right away. If you don't, check your spam filter!

Then, keep an eye out for an email with all the instructions, your list of voters and the addresses.  Then we'll deliver your postcards around the same time as you receive that email.

We ask that you donate $7.00 at this link for each set of 50 addresses.  This is our regular Act Blue account for our donations.  We will know it's for your postcards though!

You can order postcard stamps at this link or from your post office.

If we have to mail the cards to you please add an extra $7.00 for that postage.  But if the cost is too much for you please don't worry about it.  We want you to write the cards!  If you can, please think about donating a little extra for those who can't.

THE NOVEMBER 4th ELECTION

Here's what you can do to help elect and retain our good justices and judges.

- FIRST, if you haven't already, you can watch this video of our meeting with the three PA Supreme Court justices who are up for retention in November.

- THEN, share the video far and wide so that many voters understand the importance of being a voter this year and of voting YES on November 4!

Billionaires are trying hard to steal this election like they tried to do in Wisconsin last year.  We won't let them. But we have to get out and do the work to ensure our success.

And if you've heard about or seen the billionaires' mailings about wanting "term limits" on the justices, they do have term limits of a sort - they are required to retire at age 75.  Some voters may think it's like federal judges who have lifetime appointments, but that is not the case in PA.

- NEXT, you can donate directly to the justices campaigns on their websites --

Dougherty's is here;  Donohue's is here;  Wecht's is here.

CANVASS TO VOTERS

Canvassing is the gold standard for convincing voters to the vote.  You can canvass to voters in Northeast Philly now!

Sign up here to see the dates and for more information.

PHONE BANK TO TALK TO VOTERS!

You can phone bank and talk to Pennsylvania voters about what you saw on our video meeting with the justices!  Our friends at Red To Blue with One PA are hosting virtual phone banks to get out the vote.  So sign up and make a difference!  They will use the easy Scale to Win autodialer and will provide plenty of training and support for new callers.
